Artemis Fowl (in english)
illustration de Tony Fleetwood
Gallimard Jeunesse
Sujet :
Artemis Fowl, second of that name, is the heir of a long tradition of thieves. Although only 12 years old, he has just put the finishing touches to a vast project, that will allow him to steal gold from fairies. The fairies jealously hide their treasure under ground, within a formidable organisation. But nothing can stop Artemis. Assisted by his loyal Butler, an outstanding bodyguard, he organises un unprecedented seizure of hostages.
Commentaire :
The deployment of the most sophisticated means, from the computer to the last electronic gadget, reminds us of James Bond ; the fairies, elfs, gnomes, and other types of magic creatures belong to the world of fairy tales and legends, since time immemorial ; the rhythm is that of a good detective novel…It's an explosive cocktail that explains the success of such a novel, bordering on "heroic fantasy" style that is so much in fashion. The fantasy imagination and scathing humour of the author are here the ingedients of a new genre, that is not afraid to exist without scoarseness ans with a carefully selected ans evocative vocabulary. From the mirky zones of the Far-east to traditionnal Ireland, not forgetting numerous forays underground with the squad specialised in high-risk operations, the reader has no time to get bored. Let us not forget that Artemis, although a thief, will turn out to have a big heart.
